How to get information about potential brownfield sites in your community
If you have sites in your community that you would like to see cleaned up, you can learn more about them by searching the on-line lists below. You can also submit a Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) request to any government agency to learn about the ownership and tax status of a parcel as well as various environmental characterizations.
To be effective, the more information you have about sites in question, the better.
Information that is useful includes the following items, among others: site ownership (historical and/or current with contact information), regulatory/enforcement action history, current and/or historical parcel uses, GPS coordinates and/or physical address.
Combining information from the databases below can assist in brownfield identification and characterization. For example, you can use your local planning office's zoning maps with property tax assessment information to determine whether a parcel is zoned for industrial use and/or tax-delinquent.
All of this information will be very useful in your work to fund the revitalization of land in your community!
