EPA Brownfields Grants Proposals Due October 12
Each year EPA awards grants to eligible public and non-profit organizations for brownfields cleanup and assessment. The guidelines for applying for EPAs brownfields grants are now available on EPAs
website. Proposals are due October 12, 2007. EPA is accepting proposalsfor three types of grants:
1) Assessment grants to identify and characterize brownfield sites (up
to $200,000);
2) Cleanup grants for site-specific environmental remediation activities
(up to $200,000);
3) Revolving loan fund (RLF) capitalization grants for brownfields
cleanup (up to $1 million)

The EPA has announced grants for the three following areas: Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission, Monongalia County and Nitro.

An EPA Brownfields Job Training Grant awarded to the West Virginia University's Water Research Institute.
The $161,000 grant will be used to train 80 West Virginia residents with environmental remediation skills used in brownfield assessment and development.

EPA awards $198,000 to clean up Deckers Creek - May 21, 2006
Monongalia County is working with local watershed group, Friends of Deckers Creek, to complete site assessments in the creek corridor near Morgantown. The Northern WV Brownfields Assistance Center is working closely with responsible parties in assessment procedures. The Dominion Post recently featured an article about the EPA award.

Rahall Announces $600,000 in Brownfields Grants for Southern WV - May 18, 2006
Southern WV communities were recently granted $600,000 collectively through the EPA Brownfields program for the site assessment and cleanup. Read more about the grant awarded communities and supporting Southern WV Brownfields Assistance Center in a Hinton Newspaper article.
