EPA Announces Brownfields Grants Awarded for 2006
Barboursville - The $200,000 Cleanup Grant will assist in the transformation of the former Barboursville Brickyard site into family housing and a community park.
Clarksburg - The $230,000 Cleanup Grant will provide funding for the remediation of two abandoned industrial sites that pose health risks to nearby residents who will benefit from the additional greenspace and commercial opportunities resulting from site cleanup.
Monongalia County - The $198,046 Assessment Grant will enable the county to partner with the local watershed group, Friends of Deckers Creek, to begin assessments of mine-scarred lands in the Deckers Creek corridor. Eventual cleanup will provide enhanced tourism and recreation opportunities.
Point Pleasant - The $200,000 Assessment Grant will be used to target several abandoned industrial properties in Point Pleasant and stimulate the redevelopment of nearly 70 acres into commercial and industrial property that will restore jobs and increase the community's tax base.
Ranson - The $200,000 Assessment Grant will continue to spur the redevelopment of Ranson's "Commercial Corridor" that will include affordable housing, a public theater, a farmer's market, and additional greenspace.
WV Region I Planning and Development Council, Southern WV (McDowell County) - The $200,000 Assessment Grant provides funding to examine the health risks associated with mine-scarred lands in order to improve the quality of life for area residents.
Wyoming County Economic Development Authority - The $200,000 Assessment Grant contributes to the community's plans to reverse the health and safety risks posed by abandoned mine lands.
